Day 3 - Park Entrance to Sleaford Mere: Sleaford Mere

We would like to acknowledge the Barngarla people, the traditional owners of the land on which we walk, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are present today.

Today would bring more lovely coastline, and more spectacular dunes as we finish our first circuit at Sleaford Mere, where our 4WD is parked.

Hiker with blue jacket and black beany kneeling with seven empty water bottles in front of him.

Empty bottles ….. at last ! Geoff no longer needs to carry the extra 8 litres of water.

Two hikers walking along a bare track. There is sparse, stunted vegetation either side of them . The track is close enough to the edge of cliff that you can out to the sea.

Along Sleaford Track initially

Then back onto the single track Investigator Trail.

Miller Hole looks like it would be an amazing fishing spot.

Hiker walking along top of foredune with the sea on their left.

The track continues just inland, the sound of the waves a constant accompaniment to our footsteps.

And back onto the beach.

Sand dunes with wheel tracks Through them. The dunes comprise large tussocks of grass cover dunes with large bare areas between them.

4WDs drive all through this area. I suspect they have contributed to the erosion leaving just these remnant grassy hummocks, or perhaps it’s just a natural phenomenon?

The trail ducks inland again. We are nearly back at the car.

Hiker standing on top of a massive dune looking across towards a shallow lake..

A glimpse of Sleaford Mere.

A massive bare expansive of sand with with puffy clouds in the sky.

One last pause to soak up the dunes, cloud shadows racing across the sand.

Man and woman sitting near the back of a 4WD Ute having a snack. They are looking out across a large shallow lake.

and the end of our first section. It has been an absolute delight.
