Thorsborne Trail Overview and Planning
The Thorsborne Trail is an exceptional 32 km thru hike on Hinchinbrook Island in tropical Queensland. The entire island is uninhabited National Park, and retains its solitude and serenity.
Trail Head to Nina Bay
Day 1: The hike to Nina Bay is a complete delight with mangroves, beaches, tropical rainforest, wildlife and spectacular views. The climb up Nina Peak is steep and rough, but there are wonderful vistas and rocky outcrops with cool breezes from which to savour them.
Nina to Little Ramsay
Day 2: Pristine beaches fringed by palm trees, rocky headlands and crystal clear lagoons that reflect the evening sunset
Little Ramsay to Zoe
Day 3: After a little beach, an estuary to wade and a rocky headland, today’s terrain is primarily inland with forest, swamp, saddles, and river crossings. A short side trip to Banksia Bay is an option to enjoy the scenery there. And your destination Zoe Falls is stunning.
Zoe to Mulligan
Day 5: Mulligan Falls is only 6.7 km away but is surprisingly demanding with an elevation gain of 300m over short sections. You’ll climb to a saddle with expansive views, followed by a long descent along a spine and then through rainforest into Mulligan Falls campsite.
Mulligan Falls to George Point
Day 6: The hike to George Point is short and cruisy, being all downhill. Its different again and delightful but you have to time your exit to suit the tidal conditions at the Mulligan Creek estuary.
