Day 9 - Fimmvorduhals: Baldvinnskali to Skogar
It’s our last day. I’m ready for a rest but sad, too. This section brings waterfalls – 25 of them! Hailing from the driest state on the driest continent of Australia, we think this is pretty special! It will be almost entirely downhill, so easy walking, and there should be spectacular views.
We head off past the last of the snow.
Skoga River. Doesn’t look like much now, but wait until the other end!
First waterfall. 24 to go!
Can you get sick of waterfalls? Nope. They are all different.
The spectacular canyon. It just goes and goes with many viewing vantage spots.
Better get a pic while there are so many people about!
Cotton grass (Eriophorum scheutseuri). It was once soaked in fat and used as lamp wicking.
A few humpty-doos, with Daltindur majestic in the background.
The lower we get, the more people there are: Skogafoss is a tourist highlight.
And we tourists do a lot of damage. This sign would have been good at the other end as well.
Wow. The mist is spray droplets rising from the waterfall below.
Back to civilization …. its actually a bit confronting!
Meadowsweet, and our hotel somewhere in the background.
And the mighty Skogafoss, with mighty crowds. The end of our wonderful hike, with each day filled with memories for a lifetime.
